Update: Starting Nov. 1, vaccination or negative test required for entry at The Crucible. Vaccination required for all students Jan. 1, 2022

10.7.2021

Proof of Vaccination or Negative COVID test will be Required Starting on November 1, 2021

In response to Federal and statewide mandates for schools and other educational settings, starting November 1, 2021, The Crucible will require all staff, faculty, volunteers, lab participants, and students over the age of 12 to either present proof of a completed COVID-19 vaccination where the recipient has received a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or a single dose of the J&J vaccine, 14 days or earlier from the date they plan to be at The Crucible. Under certain circumstances, detailed below, individuals may also be able to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test with results taken within 72 hours before checking in at The Crucible if they request, and are granted, an accommodation 2 weeks in advance of their start date.

In addition, with the rise of the Delta variant and as recommended by the CDPH, everyone 2 years of age or older will be required to wear a mask inside of the building. This is regardless of vaccination status. PPE will be provided if needed. We will also continue check-ins and temperature checks.

Students Over the Age of 12

Starting November 1, 2021, all students over the age of 12 coming in for classes, private workshops, team builds and labs will need to present a vaccination card or a photo of their vaccination card (with proof of ID), or a digital vaccination record (such as ), with a matching photo ID,) when they check-in to be admitted into their class. Vaccinated individuals must show that they received their second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or a single dose of the J&J vaccine, at least 14 days prior to coming to The Crucible. Between November 1-December 31, 2021, students who are unvaccinated can be admitted if they can provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before checking in for classes at The Crucible. COVID-19 test results must have been date and time-stamped by a known lab. Starting in January 2022, all students 12 and older must be vaccinated.

There will be no exceptions to this rule.

Youth Participants Age 12 and Under

Children under the age of 12 enrolled in classes, camps, and private workshops, and children under the age of 12 entering the building as part of a workshop, site visit, or other programs with their school or community group will be required to be fully masked during their time in the building, as recommended by The Alameda County Department of Public Health.

We require the indoor wearing of masks for all young students and adults working with them as a way to protect their health. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. All Crucible faculty and other staff working with youth will be fully vaccinated. These guidelines follow the recommendations of OUSD and Alameda County DPH.

Faculty and Staff

As of October 1, 2021, The Crucible will require all staff and faculty to be vaccinated and provide vaccination proof. The state of California is no longer accepting self-attestation waivers as proof of vaccination. Staff and faculty who do not already have their vaccination records on file will need to present a vaccination card or a photo of their vaccination card (with proof of ID) to be able to work in the building. Vaccinated individuals must show that they received their second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or a single dose of the J&J vaccine, at least 14 days prior to coming to The Crucible.

Volunteers

As of October 1, 2021, The Crucible will require all volunteers to be vaccinated and provide vaccination proof. The state of California is no longer accepting self-attestation waivers as proof of vaccination. Volunteers who do not already have their vaccination records on file will need to present a vaccination card or a photo of their vaccination card (with proof of ID), or a digital vaccination record (such as with a matching photo ID), before their first volunteer shift after October 1st, 2021. Vaccinated individuals must show that they received their second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or a single dose of the J&J vaccine, at least 14 days before coming to The Crucible. Volunteers who are exempt from COVID-19 vaccinations due to medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs must request an accommodation from vaccine requirements. This accommodation will be provided as a result of a letter to the Executive Director from your physician explaining that your medical condition prohibits receiving a vaccination, or a letter from your spiritual leader explaining that you have sincerely held religious beliefs that prohibit receiving a vaccine. Those whose accommodation is upheld must take a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours before checking in for activities at The Crucible, and present their negative results at the door as a condition of participation, every week, during the time they are active at The Crucible. COVID-19 test results must have been date and time-stamped by a known lab.

GIFTY Attendees and Participating Vendors

Vendors and attendees will need to show a pre-entry negative COVID-19 taken no more than 72 hours before entry, or present verification of their fully vaccinated status. A vaccination card or a photo of your vaccination card (with proof of ID), or a digital vaccination record (such as , with a matching photo ID), will be required before load-in. Vendors will be notified of this requirement ahead of time. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.

Masks will be required of all participants and vendors, with no exceptions. The Crucible will maintain designated areas for eating and drinking both indoors and outside.
